The building is designed by Alfred Waterhouse and was built using Victorian Building techniques. In 1927 it was moved to make way for an Indian elephant specimen, and then moved again in 1970 to the North Hall. The grand central foyer of the structure houses a Diplodocus cast, and the museum itself contains a large exhibition about dinosaurs and other items.
